"Eminem's defense of the homophobic lyrics on his albums has always been that he's not speaking as himself, he's speaking as a character, and he's representing homophobia in America ... I thought it would be quite interesting to take that method and just to imagine a scene where a boy meets a famous rap star backstage at his concert and is surprised to discover he's gay and ends up sleeping with him. Just to present rap in this homosexual context. I mean, there obviously are gay rap stars."

What? Where in the world did you hear he was homophobic? I don't think so, He just says stuff other people are scared to say.

Bibsy: Of course Eminem can't be homophobic. If he says what others are afraid to say, then he's not scared. That means he's just a bigot-for-profit. Fearlessly he spews his opinions about GLBTQ folk; bravely he collects royalty checks based on his songs and albums. That's real courage, huh?
Michelangelo Signorile might beg to differ. But what would he know? He's just been writing critically and thoughtfully about gay issues for, like, years and years.
If all someone knows of Eminem is what gets played on the radio or MTV, then they might not assess him critically. Check MTV honcho Judy McGrath's take on his lyrics: "[...] We believe Eminem has a right to express his opinions. That said, on our air, we've applied our strict standards to both his videos and appearances on MTV. His homophobic and misogynistic lyrics have never appeared on MTV. While many people find his lyrics offensive or irresponsible, including many of us at MTV, he's obviously struck a chord with our audience. [...]"
Do you have any gay friends? Do they listen to Eminem? Have you asked them what they think about him and his music?

I'm currently writing an essay on hip-hop controversy, was quite impressed with the comments ive come across about Eminem. I think people should value other peoples opinions, even if they don't necessarily agree with them. Em has the balls to say what he thinks, not many people do that!
